How to stop drinking at home

Avoiding alcohol

According to the latest data, half a million people die from alcoholism in one country every year, which is much more than from natural disasters and epidemics. These shocking statistics point to the need for early action. Many are aware of this, but only 1. 7% of people with alcoholism seek medical help. Others do not want to be treated in specialized centers or try to stop drinking at home.

Methods for eliminating alcohol dependence

Special medicines, folk recipes, self-training and other techniques are used to treat alcoholism at home. The main thing when choosing is to use only those methods that are characterized by minimal risk.

Taking medicines and folk remedies has the following goals:

  • cleansing the body of toxic substances;
  • elimination of the main symptoms that appear after cessation of alcohol (headache, nausea, shivering, etc. );
  • prevents return.

Folk remedies

Traditional medicine has a number of recipes in its arsenal to help you stop drinking at home. They help cleanse the body of toxins, develop aversion to alcohol and strengthen the immune system.

The following tools are often used:

  • Decoration of the sacred plant. Dry grass (4 handfuls) is poured with a liter of boiling water, which is kept in a water bath for half an hour. It is taken twice a day for two weeks;
  • Marigold soup with oats. Water (2 liters) is poured into a pot, and the grains of unrefined oats are poured on a third of the pot, and then boiled on low heat for 15-20 minutes. Calendula flowers (100 grams) are added to the strained broth. Then the tank is well insulated and left for 11-12 hours. Drink the resulting drink once a day, 250 ml before meals;
  • Gingerbread soup. The leaves (40 grams) are poured with water (1 cup) and cooked for 15 minutes. Take 20 ml 6 times a day;
  • herbal infusion. Mix equal portions of dried herbs (chamomile or wormwood, thyme and centaur), pour boiling water and leave for 3 hours. The filtered infusion is taken from 40 milliliters 3 times a day.

Traditional healers may also suggest giving patients decoctions, followed by vomiting and aversion to alcohol:

  • laurel and lavender roots are crushed and poured with vodka, kneaded for 14 days;
  • European onion leaves are poured over boiling water and left for 2 weeks in a dark place. The resulting tincture is mixed in equal proportions with vodka and given to the patient in the morning and during lunch, and in the evening it is poured with pure vodka.

The above decoctions should be used only after consulting a doctor, as there may be contraindications to taking some herbs. If you do not take them into account, you can harm the body instead of the benefits.

In order for folk remedies to have the desired effect, you will need to take them for a long time (at least 2 months). It is also recommended to clean the enema, drink more water and bathe in larger quantities.

Drug

You should not choose your medications, as you will need to consult a narcologist. He will prescribe an appropriate medicine, taking into account the individual characteristics of the organism.

Usually for those who want to stop drinking I can recommend:

  • enterosorbents (to remove residual ethyl alcohol and its breakdown products from the intestine);
  • diuretics (to cleanse the body);
  • antihypertensives (high blood pressure);
  • analeptics (in case of heart pain);
  • sleeping pills (for insomnia).

Drink blocking agents can be used to stop drinking. As a result, there is no relaxation and euphoria, but only negative consequences remain, which gradually weaken the craving for alcohol. A special group of drugs causes aversion to alcohol. Such drugs do not work for a long time, which is why they are taken in long courses. The need for admission is determined by a doctor.

Using hypnosis

You can currently find recommendations for conducting a hypnosis session at home on the Internet. This method does not require a lot of time (10-10 minutes a day is enough) and money. An addicted person should not know about it. The downside of this method is that it takes a long time to affect the psyche (several months, and in some cases even a year). To save time and prevent negative impacts, it is better to give preference to medical care when using an amateur approach.

In general, there are some rules to follow with hypnosis at home:

  • session is conducted in the deep phase of sleep (during this time the body rests and the brain remains active and receptive to signals);
  • when the patient falls asleep, you should stand by the head of the bed and repeat the prepared phrases motivating them to stop drinking in a voice with appropriate intonations;
  • The text should contain a statement rejecting alcohol in a positive form (for example: "alcohol makes you disgusting");
  • you cannot use the particle "no", because the result will be the opposite (human consciousness does not perceive negative particles);
  • you must not resort to the incentive form ("give up alcohol"), you must replace it with a confirmation of the result obtained ("easily give up alcohol");
  • believe in the result.

Disadvantages of home therapy

It's hard to stop drinking at home, and it's important to follow a number of rules.

  • The effect of the measures is possible if the disease is at an early stage. In the advanced stages, physical and mental disorders are observed that can only be dealt with by a specialist.
  • The patient should get rid of bad habits on his own. The person will not be forced to stop drinking. In this case, only a temporary effect is possible.
  • It will be necessary to create the most comfortable conditions, protecting the patient from stressful situations, often causing failures and providing support.
  • You will have to give up alcohol completely.

Still, the fight against alcohol at home rarely ends in 100 percent success. This situation is caused by the following reasons:

  • lack of necessary qualifications and enough experience of doctors;
  • there is a high risk of failure;
  • there is no persistent motivation in the addict (in the clinic it is better to understand the danger of alcohol and the need to give up a bad habit);
  • lacks psychological support (even if the patient's relatives sincerely try to help him, I can't instill in him the belief that he will be able to stop drinking. Only a psychotherapist can instill such confidence in his consciousness).

In addition, they often become alcoholics to distract themselves from circumstances and forget about problems. In such cases, it is necessary to find out the cause of alcohol dependence and eliminate it, which is available only to a specialist.

Since you have to stop drinking abruptly, another problem with treatment at home is the inability to fully help in the case of alcohol. These negative consequences include:

  • high blood pressure;
  • heart rhythm disorder;
  • heart failure;
  • digestive system disorders;
  • delirium tremens (in severely advanced cases).

The specialist will prescribe detoxification therapy in such cases.

It's not worth risking the health of a loved one. Help to stop drinking means going to a specialized clinic, where the patient will be provided with qualified medical care.
